About this Boat
Some say you can't sail big on a small cat. This is Horse Feathers! And she exemplifies how to make the most of 35' of waterline. Richard Woods designed the 35' Banshee with an extraordinarily wide beam. Most 35' sailing cats are 17.5' wide. Some popular cats are much narrower - the popular 34' Gemini 105MCs are 14' wide for instance. The Banshees have a beam of 20.5'! This extra 6.5' allows the them to carry a powerful rig and offer maximum stability when pressed. The beam also greatly reduces wave interference below the bridgedeck. As a result, the Banshees sail like much larger cats.
The gently rounded V of the hulls creates an easily driven and seakindly motion. The 9.9 hp Yamaha high-thrust outboard propels her at 6-7 knots and, with electric start/tilt/trim, the outboard can be completely retracted from the water under sail to eliminate drag. Peace-of-mind is provided by an extended warranty from Yamaha that is good until 2024! Banshees are also equipped with a daggerboard and have excellent windward performance as a result. Horsefeathers is a light foam-core catamaran intended to be a fast cruiser racer. She was professionally built by Palamos Marine and finished by WJ Law Marine. She has proven her capabilities by sailing as fast as 20 knots on a deep reach. Speeds in the teens are common under sail.
Banshees live like a larger cat too. The extra beam maximizes accommodation below and creates a large enjoyable cockpit on deck. The central outboard propulsion means that no space in the hulls is taken up by heavy/noisy/smelly engines. Instead she has good balance and surprising accommodation. Horsefeathers has up to 6'6" standing headroom in the hulls. Sitting headroom in bridgedeck saloon settee keeps her sleek and efficient to windward while still providing plenty of functional space for dining and conversation. The bridgedeck even incorporates a full-sized navigation station into the settee. Forward of the settee is an open centerline master bunk that spans the bridgedeck. The settee can also collapse into a midship berth and it is a perfect nest underway or at anchor. There are also single cabins aft in each hull and additional lounging and storage space forward in each hull. The galley is down to starboard. The marine head is down and to port. Horse Feathers is an excellent choice if you want a catamaran that is easy on the pocketbook, swift on the water, and comfortable on the hook. Contact Matthew today!
