Phillip Berman is the president of The Multihull Company and a lifetime catamaran sailor and racer. He grew up racing Hobie Cats in California in the late 1960’s and published his first book on catamaran racing at the age of seventeen. Called MULTIHULL RACING THE HOBIE CATS, it was published by Sea Publications, NY in 1975. He went on to write many more books on the subject including the best-selling catamaran training manual of all time, CATAMARAN SAILING FROM START TO FINISH (W. W. Norton, NY, 1982.). He also wrote WINNING IN CATAMARANS (Wind Publications, 1979), PERFORMANCE WINDSURFING (with Mike Waltz, W.W. Norton, 1984), as well as the Hobie 14 and Hobie 18 Performance Manuals (Murray’s Marine, 1984). He has been a regular contributor of articles over the years to Sail Magazine, Cruising World, and a wide range of yachting publications around the world
In addition to his passion for sailing, Phil is an avid triathlete and participates regularly in Olympic distance triathlons throughout America, where he is a nationally ranked athlete in the 55 to 59 year old racing group.
Alexis de Boucaud, Florida and St. Martin
Alexis grew up racing dinghies in the waters of Brittany, France. He immigrated to the United States as a young man and developed his interest in offshore cruising and racing in New England and the Bahamas. Alexis began his professional yachting career as a charter captain sailing the storied seas of French Polynesia on a Fountaine-Pajot Marquises 56 catamaran. There he developed a talent for sharing and communicating his love for bluewater sailing to his worldly guests. More recently, Alexis spent ten years managing Nautor’s Swan Charters, a high-end charter company with over fifty Swans based in the Caribbean, New England and the Mediterranean. While at Nautor’s Swan, Alexis coordinated sales of new yachts through the French defiscalisation program. He later instituted a successful yacht sales and management program to develop the fleet in non-French territories. This experience gave him substantial experience in the many facets of yacht sales and brokerage in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Alexis is bilingual English-French. He was educated in the United States and has worked in the US, Europe and the Caribbean. He has sailed extensively on multihulls and particularly enjoys performance cats.

Will Miller, South Carolina
Captain Will Miller grew up in Virginia and learned to sail in the Chesapeake Bay. He has lived in Charleston since 2001 and knows the city well. Throughout his life Will’s parents have owned a variety of sail, ski, and fishing boats in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, the Carolinas, and the Caribbean. Family vacations included chartering in the Virgin Islands, St. Lucia, the Bahamas, and Jamaica. Will developed a love of the water at a very young age and chose to pursue a career as a captain after graduating from the College of Charleston in 2005. As a lifelong sailor Captain Will has traveled extensively throughout the waters of the United States and Caribbean. He has been a certified sailing instructor and licensed US Coast Guard Captain since 2006. While attending the College of Charleston Will worked at the Charleston City Marina. Post college graduation he lived and worked in Negril, Jamaica where his family owns and operates a restaurant, fuel dock, fishing, and sailing charters. Will returned to Charleston to work for the sailing school after his time abroad. Shortly after, Will joined The Multihull Company as an associate broker.
Matthew Dunning, Pacific Northwest
Matthew brings fifteen years experience cruising multihulls on Puget Sound and points north to the TMC brokerage team. Along with his practical knowledge of multihull designs and seamanship, Matthew is a graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree in Geography. He has an intimate knowledge of the Northwest’s unique maritime geography that he describes as, “One of the world’s most beautiful, intricate, and extensive cruising grounds. The joys of which are advantageously and endlessly displayed to the owner of a cruising multihull.”
Carl Olivier, Virgin Islands
Carl Olivier was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up just a stones throw from the ocean, he soon developed a love for the sea, surfing, windsurfing, snorkeling and fishing. At the age of 15, moving to the east coast, where his family owned a fishing boat, Carl involved himself in deep sea and game fishing, scuba diving, keelboat and Hobie cat racing, as well as surfing the Great White shark infested warm waters. He then attained his scuba and powerboat licences.
High school graduation marked the beginning of 7 years of travel, visiting or working in Israel, Egypt, Greece, Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, Brazil and the UK. Whilst living in London, he enjoyed dinghy and keelboat sailing.
Through his love of the sailing lifestyle, together with his innate business sense, he found his niche in yacht brokering. After 5 successful years as a yacht broker in South Africa, Carl went on to form his own brokerage, which he sold 5 years later, to take his family cruising. Almost 2 years and 14 000nm later, Carl has made the Caribbean his home. His decade of yacht sales experience, together with his first-hand knowledge of on-board systems and maintenance, provides his clients with a holistic sales service. Carl continues to live aboard, enthusiastically serving TMC clients in and around the Virgin Islands.
Jeff Jones, Florida
The Multihull Company is excited to announce the addition of Jeff Jones to it’s team in Florida. Jeff was born and raised in Miami and grew up sailing Biscayne Bay. An avid scuba diver and fisherman, he extensively explored the Florida Keys and the Bahamas and later lived aboard and cruised the East and West coasts of the US and the Caribbean islands. Jeff’s years of experience have left him with a solid technical understanding of all onboard systems. Previously with The Moorings brokerage team, Jeff brings an enormous amount of knowledge and experience to the TMC team in Fort Lauderdale and to clients. “We are truly excited to add someone with the experience and expertise that Jeff possesses,” TMC President Phil Berman said. “He will bring tremendous value to our clients who are looking to either purchase or sell a catamaran in the area, as he has first hand knowledge with each brand and their values.” Jeff’s knowledge of the on board systems and boat construction has aided him in finding clients the right boat for their needs as well as participating in the sea trial and survey portion of the buying process. For the past five years he has specialized in brokering both new and pre-owned catamarans and have sailed more than 5,000 miles on them in the last 6 months primarily on the east coast of the US, Bahamas and the Caribbean.
Chris Rundlett, Grenada
Chris Rundlett’s first sailing adventure was on a small Sunfish owned by the U.S. Coast Guard where his father was stationed in North Dakota. There was plenty of wind – but not much water! Since then he dreamed of bigger horizons and sailed whenever he had the chance. Chris is a true son of a sailor. Chris started his maritime career teaching USCG Captains Licensing courses in the Pacific Northwest. This lead to teaching sailing in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. In 2008, Chris started working with a sailing school in the Caribbean – St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He enjoyed sailing in these exquisite waters so much, he decided to stay. In 2013, Chris started the premier American Sailing Association affiliate school in the Caribbean, LTD Sailing – “Living the Dream!”, with his partner Chrystal Young. They have now opened a second location in the Grenadines at the Port Louis Marina, Grenada partnering with The Multihull Company and Five Oceans Marine Group. Chris and Chrystal found that many of their sailing school students were interested in buying boats – making this a natural partnership. Grenada is a great cruising destination with its southerly latitude, excellent marine services and active cruising community. Chrystal Young, Grenada
As owners of a sailing school, it quickly became evident that many people learning to sail also want to buy boats! The partnership with The Multihull Company and LTD Sailing in beautiful Port Louis Marina is a natural progression to complete the circle of services offered in Grenada and the Grenadines. Do what you love! Sailing and sailboats are at the top of the list of Chrystal’s passions and now she has managed to make that her career. After working through a five year plan with her partner, Chris Rundlett, Chrystal was able to throw off the bowlines, quit her job and move to the Caribbean full-time. Starting her sailing adventures on the Inland waters of North Idaho then expanding to the Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands, she now sails the tropical waters of the Caribbean – “Living the Dream!” As a sailboat racing & rally enthusiast, Chrystal has participated in the Montana Cup, Whidbey Island Race Week, Baja Ha Ha, and many more. She has thousands of miles of experience on the Pacific Coast, East Coast and the Caribbean. Her background is in Adult Education and Outdoor Leadership. Jaryd Forbes, Trinidad & Tobago
Growing up in Trinidad & Tobago, Jaryd Forbes love of the ocean started at a very young age. Travelling aboard his Fathers Lagoon 42 “Delphini”, Jaryd developed a thorough knowledge and affinity for crafts of all types as well as ocean faring. With experience ranging from power to sailboats of all models and sizes, and assisting with pre-purchase surveys and deliveries, he possesses an intimate knowledge of his native Trinidad and the wider Caribbean in order to better serve TMC clients. With a strong background for business from schooling and managing Imagination Ltd, a family owned business started in 1991,and his vast knowledge of the sea and crafts of all types, Jaryd decided to join TMC in the Summer of 2012 as an associate broker in Trinidad & Tobago.
Cal Landau, Florida
Cal grew up in Pennsylvania, spending every summer since born on the rivers, on houseboats, speedboats and did some serious water skiing with his brothers before diverting to racing rally cars for almost 30 years winning two National Championships driving for Dominos Pizza.
His next career path took him to become an international award winning wedding and portrait photographer. It was in that time Cal’s father, who was a live aboard sailor for a few years sailing the US East coast and Bahamas, convinced Cal to move to Florida.
Sailing is now his passion and his father is now 94 years old and still enjoys sailing with Cal and his wife and friends. Cal and his wife Marty are USCG certified 50 ton captains and spend as much time as possible on their 42 ft. Fountaine Pajot catamaran in West Palm Beach, FL. They enjoy meeting new people, especially cruisers, racing their catamaran and helping others live the dream that they have.
They have owned their catamaran for 10 years now and have equipped their cat to be as energy efficient as possible. Cal especially enjoys sharing what he has learned and helping sailors find the boat that best suits them.
Cal now serves as TMC’s Associate Broker in West Palm Beach and his vast experience as a broker and cruiser are welcome additions to TMC’s expert team.
George Ottoni, Florida
Born in Long Island, New York, George Ottoni is the first generation Brazilian-American in his family. His father shared his love for sailing with his young son with a fleet of seven model sailboats. Years of racing at New York’s annual Central Park Regatta resulted in a New York Times story depicting their boat in the lead, turning back halfway, and still finishing in 3rd place. George became “hooked” on boating for life.
At age 13, his family returned to Rio de Janeiro, and while in college George joined the “Clube de Regatas Vasco da Gama” crew team. There he competed in the 2, 4 and 8 man sweep rowing race boats at an Olympic level. George recollects: “There’s nothing like rowing at dawn on the lagoon in Rio, under the gaze of the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain.”
In 1985 while working as a mechanical engineer in the aviation industry, George received an offer to return to the States with GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, OH. It was his dream job, designing, stress testing and flight-testing commercial and military jet engines. George earned numerous awards, particularly one for his sense of customer service and unique solution that enabled the Airbus A320 Certification to be completed on time. It was in Cincinnati that George raised his two daughters and son, now in their 20s and 30s.
In 1993 and capitalizing on his language skills, George began a new career by starting his own company, Vice-Versa Translation Services, Inc. His range of services quickly grew to offering advertising and technical translations in any language, contracting the highest quality translators around the globe.
George’s mission is to exceed customer expectations, delivering the best quality translations, and Vice-Versa constantly receives stellar praise as proof.
Being his own boss provided George the opportunity to buy his first boat in 1998, a 53’ Hatteras Classic motor yacht. In 2000, George purchased a 32’ Silverton aft cabin that he took on an exciting adventure, navigating the rivers and locks all the way from Cincinnati to Miami.
After 21 years of operating a home-based business, George chose to reconnect with his boating dream and obtained a Florida Yacht Broker’s License, working with Florida Yacht Group and then Denison Yacht Sales. Now he is delighted to join a company he has admired all along that concentrates on multihulls. He will be catering to the South Florida and South American markets. George is excited to share his passion for boating with his customers, as well as exceed your expectations in English, Portuguese and Spanish!
Bettina Rehn, St. Martin
Bettina Rehn works in close collaboration with Alexis de Boucaud, who works with European clients of TMC, for our office on the French Caribbean island of Saint Martin, the ideal starting point for an active search for your dream boat. Born and raised in Germany, Bettina then moved to the Caribbean where she has lived and worked for the last 20 years. Thanks to her many years of working in the hotel and boating industry, Bettina is the ideal partner for TMC Saint Martin. Bettina speaks German, French and English. Jason DeShay, Asia
Jason DeShay has been working for 15 years in the yachting industry as a Captain, broker, engineer, new build skipper and refit project manager. Hailing from the US East coast and the son a Navy veteran Jason was on the water from a very young age. Working with his father he started building and working on boats at age 10. As part of commercial fishing family he grew up at sea and since then has spent most of his life as a sailor and mariner. Working in the Caribbean, US East coast and Central America for 12 years as a catamaran skipper on various boats both in charter and privately he then moved on to building carbon fiber catamarans in China as well as pioneering boat design and construction in the jungles of Northern Laos on the Mekong river.
Captain Jason has worked around the globe acquiring experience in almost every aspect of the yachting industry. He now utilizes that experience to be part of the TMC team in SE Asia. Based in Phuket Thailand he most recently he spent one year in China building the first ever hybrid powered Gunboat 60 catamaran and made delivery to the US. As a long term live aboard sailor and yachting professional he has intimate knowledge of high performance and cruising catamarans to utilize in today’s catamaran marketplace to the benefit of buyers and sellers alike.
Delphine Lafitte, France
Like so many young French children who grew up near the sea, Delphine Lafitte began sailing at a very young age on small dinghies. Her affinity for the water and wind was so strong that she became a sailing instructor in her early teens. This laid the foundation for her future life at sea.
She became a mate on a large sailboat in her late teens and crossed the Atlantic twice. Those passages “under the stars” were enough to convince her that she must pursue a career in yachting. She went on to obtain the very prestigious French Yacht Captains license and has, for the past ten years, served as a yacht captain – operating charters, delivering yachts all over the globe, and racing in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Atlantic and South Pacific. She has experience on just about every type of yacht – large monohulls, racing monohulls, charter catamarans, racing catamarans, etc. She has served on yachts ranging in size from 28 to 145 feet.
An accomplished linguist, Delphine speaks fluent French, English, and Spanish. She operates The Multihull Company’s brokerage office in Port Pin Rolland in the South of France. Delphine not only lists catamarans for sale in Europe for the Multihull Company, but works closely with Alexis de Boucaud, our Florida Office manager, to serve the needs of European buyers looking to purchase a catamaran in the United States or the Caribbean.
Delphine is a warm, intelligent woman who loves to help others make their sailing dreams come true. She speaks not only with a great depth of sailing experience, but with a true passion for the sea.

Zvonimir Kalinić, Croatia
Zvonimir, or “Ze”, comes from the Island of Krk, the largest Croatian island. As he has always been adventurous, the coast of the Adriatic Sea was the perfect location for various hobbies that have now become his profession.
His real love for the sea began when he started scuba diving. With his family having a diving boat, Zvonimir discovered the most beautiful places in the area. It was not long until he realized that he couldn’t work or live anywhere else but by the sea. Sailing, underwater photography and spearfishing are just some of his hobbies.
After completion of Nautical University in Dubrovnik (diploma in Maritime Technologies of Yachts and Marinas), he found his first job on a 60 meter luxury yacht. From then on, he has worked for years on many private and charter yachts which were cruising the Adriatic and the Meditteranean.
After many years of the yachting life he decided to further develop his skills and to use his knowledge in the area of Marine Surveying. For the last couple of years he was involved in various aspects of surveying such as special marine inspections, cargo damage surveys and of course surveys of yachts and small crafts. Zvonimir owned and managed the company, AS Adriatic, and his work was recognized by leading P&I Clubs and insurance companies.
His warm personality, extreme enthusiasm and care for customers is a guarantee that selling or buying a boat will be fun experience.

Rudi Pretorius, South Africa
Rudi Pretorius first began sailing windsurfers and Hobie Cats back in the 80’s, but only after graduating with a Masters Degree in Business did he acquire his first yacht. This led to the whole family becoming involved in sailing and the upward progression into catamarans ensued. Rudi has owned three yachts of which two have been catamarans, the last one being a new build. This then evolved into the founding of his own yacht company, Maverick Yachts.
Maverick Yachts partnered with The Multihull Company who were appointed as the exclusive agents in the USA. Both Phillip Berman and Alexis de Boucaud visited South Africa and from there the relationship grew. The natural consequence of this was for Rudi to partner with The Multihull Company.
Rudi has built 24 yachts, of which 17 have been catamarans. He serves on the board of the South African Boat Builders Export Council. His technical knowledge and insight into the marine industry is a great asset.

Andrew Holland is the Sales and Marketing Manager of The Multihull Company and is an avid catamaran enthusiast. He began working at The Multihull Company in 2007 after graduating from Temple University with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Marketing. Before joining TMC in 2007, Andrew worked for Philadelphia Media Holdings on the Philly.com production team and freelanced for several major magazines around the country.
After joining the The Multihull Company team in 2007 as the Web and Marketing Manger, Andrew began working closely with TMC President and catamaran expert, Phillip Berman, where he quickly learned the many facets of the catamaran industry and soon took over the role of Sales Manager at TMC. Now, after being aboard and sailing many different cats along the Eastern coastline and Caribbean, Andrew has taken that expertise to work with TMC clients, whether they are buying or selling a catamaran. Andrew has now oversaw the sale of over 800 catamarans around the world since he began working with TMC and is able to take the most complex transaction and make it a breeze!
